Welcome, one and all, trainer, master, gym leader, and fan, to Pokémon Amethyst, an exciting Pokémon experience unlike any other!
Pokémon Amethyst, or "PAM" as we affectionately refer to her, is a Pokémon roleplay community based on the popular Nintendo series. For more information on roleplaying, please visit this post.
PAM takes place in an updated version of Kanto; it's not quite the same place it was back in the days of Red and Blue! In this post, I will detail the features that were added, and explain the basics of exactly who PAM really is. I will also give information on a few things that have not yet been mentioned anywhere else!
Getting Started
If you are a newly registered user to PAM, it is very important that you read all of the posts in the Rules and References board, located at the top of the forum. These posts include super important and beneficial information, and you could end up making many silly and inconvenient mistakes if you don't read them!
Once you've read and understood all of that, you can move on to the next step: creating a character! Information regarding character creation and posting can be found here. You can have as many characters as you like (but we reccommend starting with no more than three) and they can be a trainer, a master, or even someone who just keeps Pokémon as pets!
We would also love for you to post in the introductions thread in the OOC board so that we can get to know you!
Posting
When you are ready to start roleplaying at PAM, you have countless options as to where to begin. Remember, this isn't the gameboy game and you are not Ash; there is no direct objective, and you don't HAVE to save the world or "become the greatest trainer" if you don't want to.
PAM's Kanto area was designed so that there was plenty more to do in each town than just get a gym badge and leave. Feel free to hang out with friends, chill in a cave, provoke random battles, or even make a trip to the mart simply for weekly groceries. Each town has the option of creating a home there, so if Pallet Town was never really your idea of a good time, your character can live anywhere you'd like! The possibilities are endless! :)
However, if your character is a trainer who would also like to take part in the Kanto badge quest, keep in mind that all trainers must travel to Pallet Town to start out their journey. To meet with me, of course! Ha ha!
Challenges
There are a few different kinds of challenges available for your characters to participate in here at PAM. To review the way battling works, please refer to this post.
The most well-known is the Elite Four Challenge, which I reccommend most trainers to start out with. This challenge consists of fighting the main Gym Leader of each city in Kanto and earning a badge for defeating them. Once you have collected all eight badges, you may then present them at the Indigo Plateau for the chance to battle the Elite Four and become a Champion. Champions will earn a bigger badge, lots of honor and whatnot, and will be recognized in the Hall of Fame.
The second challenge offered at PAM is for those who have perhaps finished the Elite Four challenge and would like to go on to greater conquests. This is the TypeMasters Challenge. In each gym in Kanto, there is not only the original eight gym leaders, but a collection of a few other gym leaders as well. To complete the TypeMasters Challenge, trainers must defeat all of the leaders in each city gym. After they defeat each full gym, they will receive a TypeMaster badge for each one. There are, of course, eight of those to collect, and they are very impressive to carry around for your name. Trainers who defeat all of the leaders in every gym in Kanto will be placed into the TypeMasters Hall of Fame.
In addition to the above, there are also many Trainer Activities that can be participated in at almost any time and are located in their own category of the board, beneath the PokéNav.
Pokémon of the Moment
Every now and then there will be a new Pokémon of the Moment featured in the sidebar. If trainers happen to catch this Pokémon in the grass at any time while it is featured, they will win a special badge to add to their collection!
