 Pokémon Training Guide!
« Thread Started on Jun 24, 2008, 6:42pm »

Now that most of you have started to set out on your journeys, you may be wondering how exactly you go about training your pokémon, leveling them up, giving them new attacks, and getting them to evolve.

Well, look no further than this guide! Here, I will explain to you exactly how all of that works here at PAM.

The most important thing that you must remember is that your pokémon cannot train or do any of the things mentioned above without participating in battles! For more information on how battling works, see this thread.

Leveling Up

This is touched upon in the Battle Tutorial, but I will also include it here. As you all know, pokémon grow stronger and more powerful by leveling up. When pokémon level up, they are able to learn new attacks and become bigger challenges to their opponents in battle.

The way leveling up works is based on the number of battles your pokémon wins, and follows a very easy format to keep track of. The number of battles you must win is directly parallel to your levels. FOR INSTANCE, if you are a level 6 pokemon, you will need to win six battles in order to advance to level 7. Or, likewise, if you are on level 30, you need to win 30 battles to advance to level 31.

Make sure to keep tabs on your pokémon's battle stats so that you know when you can level them up! Once your pokémon has reached the point where they are able to evolve, you may do it yourself without having to contact an administrator, as long as it is legitimate.

Learning Attacks

Pokémon have the option to learn new attacks every few levels that they gain. For this, we follow Bulbapedia directly. If you wish to keep tabs on this yourself, you may want to periodically look up your pokémon using the Bulbapedia search feature and see at which levels they learn which attacks. Make sure to keep to the GENERATION IV attacks-by-leveling-up charts, as they do differ between generations for some pokémon.

If, however, you don't catch when your pokémon reaches a level at which they can learn a new attack, the admins will be periodically keeping track of this and can, in most cases, notify you.

Evolution

Similar to learning attacks, pokémon will also evolve when they reach a certain level. For this, we also stick to Bulbapedia, and it's generally a good idea to keep track of when each of your pokémon are supposed to evolve.

When your pokémon has reached a level where it is supposed to evolve, you may play this out yourself as well, as long as it is legitimate.

Again, if you do not catch when your pokémon is supposed to evolve, the admins may also be able to notify you if they spot it.

There you have it, trainers! Should you have any questions, feel free to contact myself or my fellow administrators!
